For a place without a journalism school, UVM has a long list of alumni with outstanding careers in the field. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that Henry Jarvis Raymond, founder of The New York Times, was UVM Class of 1840.

I recently learned of another when a colleague picked up a story on the web that Rob Guth, Class of 1990, had been tabbed to be the Wall Street Journal‘s Los Angeles bureau chief. Rob has been working most recently as the Journal‘s tech reporter in San Francisco and originally joined the staff of the paper in 1999 as a reporter in the Tokyo bureau covering Japanese technology, consumer electronics, telecommunications, and video games.

THE POSTER SALE

Racks of posters outside of the student center, count this among the unofficial rituals of the start of a new academic year. Jimi Hendrix still has a place on dorm room walls; there’s something reassuring about that.
